Artist Statement
In my body of work, I am creating a lure between my own sensations and confronting shifting emotional perspectives. These sensations ripple between the world I observe and the persistence of convoluted familiar relationships. The emotions I harbor are captivated by tender brush strokes that push to detangle the familiar image in an obscured space; furthermore, usages of paint and mixed media materials allow the image to be in a state of flux by using saturation to heighten those sensations. The work resolves in the moving and obliterating parts of an image. By engulfing the image with soft, tender, rippling floral patterns the painting creates tension that provides context to the flawed individual. The tension of rippling floral paint combined with domestic imagery also alludes to a personal nod to vintage nostalgia residing in my childhood and the times before my own recollection.
The work has an acknowledgement of lingering attachments yet supports the conflicting conviction of the flawed character that I feel utter melancholy towards. These thoughts of my own attachments are polarizing, contradictory that flood my headspace, and are constantly at an endless tug of war. From these sentiments, I try to create an understanding of the change and the unresolved persons who inhabit the space. I create work that is repetitive and has a continuity in a way where one could describe it as an obsession. The work is approached where the flux of the painting is animating through repetition and painterly strokes between multitude of pieces. Colours are saturated; like a ringing the envelopes the senses in its abundance to invite the viewer to be immersed.
